It’s been a good day

Every other day or so, one of the big companies come to the computer science building to have a talk about their company, some specific technology they use or anything related. They often use free food (usually pizza) as a means of drawing peoples attention there. Sometimes, they also have prizes which they give away to people more or less at random.

Today, it was Amazon.com's turn to show up, having a speech about their system for generating personalized recommendations. As usual, they offered free food (although it was actually not pizza this time, but Indian food). Also as usual, they hade prizes, and the top price for the evening was an iPod.

Unfortunately, the speech was at the same time as I had planned a squash game with Karol (the Belgian guy living next to me). Nevertheless, we managed to eat some of the free food before running off to the IMA (sports center). I also filled in some kind of small questionnaire before leaving so that I would be a part of the giving-away-prices-thing at the end of the presentation.

So anyway, I had a really good game of squash (although I lost big-time). Then I went home to my house where I and Markus had planned to make cinnamon rolls ("kanelbullar" in Swedish) with Lina (Swedish girl) and Live (Norwegian girl). We managed to get them pretty good (although we had too little filling), and the Belgians and the Americans in the house seemed to like them as well.

The thing is though, that when I got home after the squash, I and Markus had the following conversation.

Markus in a normal tone: "Hey, by the way, you won the iPod."

Me not taking him very seriously: "Yeah, right. You'll have to make a better attempt than that to make me believe you."

Markus again: "Well, what do you say about this then?" And then he held an iPod box in his hand, and gave it to me.

My new iPod.That's right. I actually won the iPod. And I wasn't even at the whole presentation. :-D So I am now a proud owner of an iPod. It's not one of those really small ones; it's not the Nano, and it's not the Mini either actually. But still. It's not very big, and it is absolutely free. And it's got 20GB of memory. A really sweet thing. :-D
