Cape Disappointment wasn't a disappointment after all. It is a nice state park which includes a lighthouse with the same name, and some beautiful coast line.

A small bay.Trail.

The only possibly disappointing part about it is that I still don't know why it is named Cape Disappointment. However, a map I found inside the visitors center gave me a clue.

If I thought I were going to Waikiki Beach on Hawaii, and I found a freezingly cold bay in the north west, I would probably name that place Cape Disappointment. :-)

The Pacific Ocean.

We stayed a few hours there, and then spent late afternoon and night driving down (with a few stops to look at things) the beautiful pacific coast in Oregon, and looking for a motel to stay in. We only had two requirements for the hotel; it should be reasonably clean, and it should have a TV. And it was really only the second requirement that was very strict! ;-) The reason was that we planned to watch the men's olympic ice hockey final, which was supposed to be broadcasted very early Sunday morning.

After rejecting one seemingly promising place, because it smelled to much cheese (it was located close to a cheese factory of some sort), and being rejected by tons of motels because they had no vacancies, we finally found the Proposal Rock Inn. The four of us rented a room with a king size bed and a sofa bed. It was a really large room and included one bed room and a living room and kitchen combined. All in all, it was really nice, and costed us $99 for the night we stayed. The Inn was almost full, so it was actually the cheapest room they had available.

The next day, we started with a nice American breakfast at the Inn, before taking our car for a drive further down the coast. After a while, we we took a large turn and headed back up towards Seattle again. On our way, we got to see a lot of Oregon's country side, and we passed through the city Dallas (Oregon also has cities called e.g. Detroit, Phoenix, Rome, Florence and Waterloo). Perhaps more importantly, we also stopped in Oregon's largest city Portland for dinner. And totally unexpecting, we actually met a German girl living in our house there! She was apparently there during the weekend for some art exhibition or similar. Small world?

After that, we (I) drove about 250 km straight back up to Seattle. Highway all the way. Rain all the way. Exciting!

Show this on a map.
